Maori Carved Jade Hei-Matau Necklace
This is a stylised carved jade fish hook pendant. For the Maori the Hei-Matau is a representation of fertility, strength and prosperity. It is believed to bring you luck when you travel over water. It is also a symbol of power and authority. It is also a symbol of power and authority. Carved jade from New Zealand, known locally as "punamu" or greenstone. It is semi transluscent when held against a source of light and will appear darker when close to the skin giving out subtle and mysterious water-like glimpse as you move. About 2 inches long. Each piece is crafted by hand so even if following the same design, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. The pendant comes complete with a traditional style cord and a bag.
